Service Description
Did you know that every part of a blackberry bush is technically edible? Learning about this popular berry and tea making family will give you the best opportunity to pick fresh, ripe berries or prime, sweet flowers by learning about their growing seasons, habits and their key ID features along with how to care for unruly brambles. Your forest edges will become a bevy of the sweetest foraging hauls after taking this ID class. TERRAIN: As a working U-Pick flower farm, this site is easy to navigate, but it does have some hills. Marshy areas near the stream mean boots are ideal. Extensive teaching gardens here are scattered to display native plants, shrubs and trees that love marshes, hillsides and forests. A uniquely perfect teaching site. PARKING & FACILITIES: Follow the signs for the U-Pick flower farm to the open gravel lot next to an open field. You’ll see a flower stand and chicken eggs at the entrance. Port-a-potty ONLY AVAILABLE July-Oct. WHAT TO BRING: We always recommend dressing for the weather and being prepared to hike a bit outdoors. You should also bring your phone to take pictures with and a notebook if you’d like to take notes. Large parts of this location are unshaded. Be sure to wear sunscreen and bring a hat for shade. WHAT ELSE TO KNOW: From July-October the U-Pick is open for business, and they sell their own eggs. Volunteer opportunities to learn about flower farming are available.
