Service Description
Try before you “buy” in this class where we will start by taste-testing a few iced herbal blends while learning a little about our local tea history. Once we’ve explored base flavors for making native black and green “teas”, we will learn how to process them into your own teas using simple techniques and tools, and we’ll have an optional portion to gather a sample of tea-making blends from the site. Each host site will have its own variety of flavors, from bramble bases to add-ins like lemon bee-balm & sweet goldenrod to native mints & calming herbs. You must bring gloves and clippers or scissors for your collection if you’d like to take some fresh samples home with you. Collection items will be seasonal, based on host site preferences, & dependent on what Mother Nature provides! In this class you will: - Taste test several seasonal wild teas - Learn about what creates each flavor - Receive a back tea base take-away - Have optional gathering of ingredients TERRAIN: As a working horse ranch with a stream and hills, this site is muddy and can have a stream crossing that you’ll need to be very careful for. The water running down the hillsides and natural animal byproducts makes this an excellent mushrooming location with lots of natural mint families, fields of herbs, and tree variations. PARKING & FACILITIES: Weekend classes are encouraged to park across the street at Stirn’s Garage paved area, but if it is full, park in the lower lot or the lower field. Do not park at the stables and white house. There is a port-a-potty in the lower parking lot. WHAT TO BRING: We always recommend dressing for the weather and being prepared to hike a bit outdoors. You should also bring your phone to take pictures with and a notebook. At this site, we specifically recommend waterproof shoes such as rain boots with good tread or waterproof hiking boots. Muck boots are the shoe of choice by the instructors. WHAT ELSE TO KNOW: Volunteer opportunities are plentiful at this non-profit location. BEFORE YOU BOOK: - No pets - No children under 8 are allowed - Children 8-18 must be accompanied by a legal guardian - Masks & social distancing are mandatory - Classes are rain or shine and only reschedule for severe weather - Wear appropriate clothing for the class & terrain you sign up for
