Service Description
Try before you “buy” in this class where we will start by taste-testing a few iced herbal blends while learning a little about our local tea history. Once we’ve explored base flavors for making native black and green “teas”, we will learn how to process them into your own teas using simple techniques and tools, and we’ll have an optional portion to gather a sample of tea-making blends from the site. Each host site will have its own variety of flavors, from bramble bases to add-ins like lemon bee-balm & sweet goldenrod to native mints & calming herbs. You must bring gloves and clippers or scissors for your collection if you’d like to take some fresh samples home with you. Collection items will be seasonal, based on host site preferences, & dependent on what Mother Nature provides! In this class you will: - Taste test several seasonal wild teas - Learn about what creates each flavor - Receive a back tea base take-away - Have optional gathering of ingredients TERRAIN: As a working U-Pick flower farm, this site is easy to navigate, but it does have some hills. Marshy areas near the stream mean boots are ideal. Extensive teaching gardens here are scattered to display native plants, shrubs and trees that love marshes, hillsides and forests. A uniquely perfect teaching site. PARKING & FACILITIES: Follow the signs for the U-Pick flower farm to the open gravel lot next to an open field. You’ll see a flower stand and chicken eggs at the entrance. Port-a-potty ONLY AVAILABLE July-Oct. WHAT TO BRING: We always recommend dressing for the weather and being prepared to hike a bit outdoors. You should also bring your phone to take pictures with and a notebook if you’d like to take notes. Large parts of this location are unshaded. Be sure to wear sunscreen and bring a hat for shade. WHAT ELSE TO KNOW: From July-October the U-Pick is open for business, and they sell their own eggs. Volunteer opportunities to learn about flower farming are available.
